Liz Walters

Owner, Walters Photographic

As a very young child I was fascinated by cameras and the darkroom.  My dad helped pique my interest by supplying cameras, film and a darkroom.  My brother and I spent many hours taking pictures, developing film, printing pictures and learning techniques.

In 1981 my dream of combining my love for photography and children came true. I founded Walters Photographic and concentrated on the Preschool Market. I had been a director of a Palo Alto Preschool for four years previous to this. I also taught Spanish at a junior high school in Tempe, AZ.

With the help of my associates,  Walters Photographic has branched out to include not only preschool photography but also dance, sports and family photography. We enjoy the challenge of making lasting memories for families.

Thanks to the continuing contributions of the folks who work at Walters Photographic our business has grown from a very small one to one that photographs about 10,000 children a year.

I hope to continue to bring smiles to the faces of our clients, both the children and their families!

ABOUT US
I am Carisa Cordaro, I was born and raised in bright and sunny Mesa, Arizona. I was always that little kid with a camera in hand running around at family events taking pictures. As I got older I began taking more and more pictures and ended up with a really nice camera, I then finally realized that photography is what I wanted to do.

Photography was a way for me to express myself and leave my mark on somebody’s family. After I took some photos for a friend that was pregnant she passed away suddenly; her

While I am an Arizona native, I have lived in four different states before coming back to live in the Valley of the Sun in 1999.  (Somehow a dry heat just doesn’t seem as bad as living with humidity!)  I began working with Walters Photographic in 2003 and

family asked me if they could use all of the photos I had taken of her for her funeral.Of course I said yes, but at that moment I realized that being a photographer was more than a job it was my destiny, it was a way for people to hold on to momentary memories that would last forever.

My friend’s family is eternally grateful and will hold on to those pictures that I took forever and her son will see how beautiful she was as he grows; there’s my mark.

I have lived my 21 years of life to the fullest of my capabilities.  Along the way, I have experienced life’s trials and tribulations of being a young adult.  Always keeping positive and staying focus to achieve life’s purpose.  Setting new goals for myself, and accomplishing all I can has made me into the person I am proud to be today.  I have successfully graduated from Sunrise Mountain High School and attended Glendale Community College.

I love balancing my life at home while maintaining a healthy professional life with Walters Photographic.  I have been employed since October, 2001.  I have two beautiful daughters, and  been married for over 17 years now.

Our family was crazy about pictures.  My oldest family photograph is an ambrotype (printed on glass with a black backing) taken of my great grandmother.  My great grandfather was carrying this ambrotype in his vest
pocket when wounded at Gettysburg. The wooden case deflected the bullet and saved his life.  No wonder I love photography!

The picture to the left is myself at 3 months of age.

The picture on the right shows my brother Dick and I.
My current interests include my family and especially my six grandchildren who range in age from 8 to 1 year.  They keep my husband and me hopping!  We are lucky to have our children and grandchildren living close by so we can enjoy doing things together often.

To the left is a picture of our extended family at one of our celebrations.  I am sitting in the front row, 2nd from the left.

I am the Walters Photographic Business Manager and have worked for Liz Walters since August of 1997.  I spent many years working as a nurse and studied photography after nursing school. At the time I started working for Walters Photographic I had a preschool child and a toddler. It was a perfect fit as I work from home on the computer and the phone.  While I lived in Phoenix I was able to meet with customers and attend some of the photo shoots. In 2004, I decided to move back to the Midwest to be closer to my family. Liz supported my decision so instead of being 6 blocks away I now live close to 2000 miles away. The computer age is wonderful and offers great flexibility.

We moved to northern Wisconsin to an area where my grandmother was raised. We have a small farm and raise dogs, cats, chickens, peacocks, guinea hens, ducks, rabbits, sheep, llamas, and have a pony.  We love the country life!!  The only time I questioned my sanity when it was very cold and snowy last winter.  It is a town where everybody knows your name. The perfect example is when you walk into the post office you hear ‘Hi April!’ and there is no line! We shop at the pig (Piggly wiggly) and attend Friday night high school football games, which seem to be the most important social event around.  I have two wonderful daughters who have caught the acting bug. My husband travels a lot for his job so we have the perfect 20-year marriage.  My hobbies are reading, gardening, and sewing when I have time!

I am fairly new to the Photography Industry.  Besides eating everything in sight, I found it to be something I’m very good at. Being in a room filled with laughter & smiles is what inspires me.  I have always been a fan of being in front of the camera from being involved with sports, dance, and gymnastics.  Then I met Liz Walters (owner of company) who invested her time & showed me a new world behind the lens.  I have been enjoying every challenge it has provided.  I feel this is not my job but my lifestyle. People often overlook the days, memories fade away, but pictures last a lifetime. Knowing that I have caught a memory in time that can’t be replaced is what brings me joy.

My favorite activities include spending quality time with my family, pets, (Carmen and Gibson) and shopping with my two daughters.   If I'm not doing that, I'm probably cuddling with new cats.  (Einstein and Edison)

My responsibilities with Walter Photographic include overseeing the customer service department which includes working with software programs such as Microsoft excels spreadsheet, Microsoft Access, Microsoft word, ROES and Schooldays programs for order entry.  I also work closely with our lab in
My other love (after my husband, family and cat) is travel photography.  It combines two things I really enjoy – seeing new places and capturing that location on film.  (Ok, not film anymore – I am in the digital age after all, but you know what I mean.)  For me, nothing brings back a memory better than a photograph.  And I am more than willing to bore all those around me with endless albums and scrapbooks….
